Expanding your knowledge of pallet specifications can help you create the pallets that you need to get the job done. It must be remembered that a supreme quality pallet can make your purchasing experience a whole lot easier.
But for that, first, you need to learn what a pallet is, and in how many types this product is expanded into. Are you ready?
What are Pallets?
The pallet is a horizontal platform, it is typically attached with superstructure and a bottom deck which enables it to move, or lifts up with help of using material handling equipment such as; lifts trucks and conveyors. It is also used to place in appropriate storage systems and transport vehicles.
The pallet is the most common base for the unit load a system which includes the pallet, goods stacked (on top of it), pallet collar, and other means of unit load stabilization.
Wondering, on what things pallet is widely used? What does it have to do with hand pallet truck manufacturers? Well, pallets are used for storing, stacking, protecting, and transporting materials from one place to other with the help of using material handling equipment including; pallet jacks, forklifts, or conveyors.
These items are stored in racking, bulk storage or being positioned in transport vehicles.
These transporting vehicles or pallet trucks are usually seen in construction sites, and in industrial factories etc.
What materials are used for pallets?
There is a huge variety of some common materials which are used for making pallets. For example, wood pallet, it has totally dominated the marketplace in the current era followed by other materials, such as; wood composite, paper, plastic, and metal pallets.
Plastic is the most common material used for pallets. Plastic pallets can be both of durable, high-performance design, or lightweight and inexpensive, suitable for export. They’re ordinarily are more costly than wood pallets for practically identical applications, yet exceptionally esteemed for incredible attributes like; ease of sanitation, extreme durability, and the precision of manufacture.
How do you know if a pallet design is going to be successful?
Definitely, you will check it first! The purpose of checking pallet is, to compare different pallet materials, designs, and their performance. There are various lab tests for assessing all parts of the pallet.
However, the three basic parameters for testing pallets are;
Types of Pallet
There are two basic types of pallet;
Stringer is the defining part of the pallet which decides if your pallet will be a two-way entry for a four-way entry. In other words, a stringer is responsible for supporting the unit load. The stringers are the boards, typically 2 x 4’s or 3 x 4’s, sandwiched between the top and bottom deck boards.
The length of the stringer is noted first whenever it comes to specifying a stringer pallet, while the width or length of the deck boards is noted on second priority.
Frequently stringers might be indented to take into account incomplete four-way fork passage, thus creating a “4-way” stringer pallet the stringers are not scored, it is known as a “2-route” bed, with fork section just from either end. Base deck boards can be chamfered to permit passage for the wheels of a pallet jack.
Block pallets can define as 4-way entry pallets. This type of pallet uses blocks of plywood, solid wood, or plastic to support the unit load. The block pallets generally use 4 to 12 pieces to help the best deck sheets.
Both block and stringer pallets use a variety of deckboards configurations, number, width, and spacing. Moreover, plywood or oriented strand board (OSB) can also be used as deck material, which is known as a “panel deck” pallet.
At times, the stringer and block pallets are often replaced with certain types of synthetic foam, which are frequently called “floater pallets. They are used to cushion the unit load.
